The Building Research Establishment publication "Sustainability in the Built Environment" alludes to the fact that "the high economic contribution of the construction industry and the built environment comes at high environmental cost with, for example, buildings accounting for around 45% of total greenhouse gas emissions, with the production of construction materials accounting for a further 10%" [2]
Salvabuild encourages local re-use and the adoption of energy efficient technologies.
Mark Key, editor of the Building Research Establishment digest "Sustainable Masonry Construction", states that "Massive databases currently exist for the sale of property and cars, so why not create an as-built database for future deconstruction?" [3]
Salvabuild can assist by bringing those with materials, and those who need them, into contact at the deconstruction stage.
